Contessa1986 PT 38 Sundeck Motoryacht

The PT 38 Aft Cabin Sundeck Motoryacht has proven to be a very successful and sought after design over the years. With a generous teak interior and handsome lines the PT (Performance Trawler 38) offers a very nice balance in terms of value and enjoyment.

Dimensions and Capacities

The PT (Performance Trawler) Sundeck Aft Cabin 38 is a roomy aft cabin cruising yacht notable for her good looks and economical operation. She rides on a sold fiberglass hull with hard aft chines, a well flared bow and generous keel. Her standard two stateroom interior completely finished with well crafted teak joinery is arranged with the galley down, which allows for a wide open salon with opening doors both port and starboard. Access to the aft deck is done via the aft salon companionway.

The down galley is located midship forward on the portside. Access is down three steps from the salon. Arranged in a U- shaped configuration with the double sink outboard to port. An opening port above the sink provides excellent ventilation and natural light. The Princess stove and oven is aft opposite the Tundra refrigerator freezer that is positioned forward.

The guest stateroom is forward arranged with a V-berth a large hanging locker to starboard opening port lights on both sides sides and various drawers and lockers for additional storage. A head and shower are adjoined to starboard opposite the down galley.

The master stateroom is positioned aft in the boat with access from the salon on the port side. The queen island berth is angled with the head of the berth to the port aft corner of the stateroom allowing for room at the foot of the berth to access the head and shower on the starboard side of the stateroom. With tons of storage and cabinets this is a very generous cabin ideal for even full time liveaboards.

Ford Lehman SP 225

Lehman Power Corporation pioneered the marinization of engines as far back as 1932. The Lehman Econ-O-Power trademark was recognized and respected by boat builders and owners throughout the world. For over 50 years, Lehman had been an organization of dedicated boatmen with a keen appreciation of the proper specification and operation of marine power. The compact design of Lehman Econ-O-Power diesels with special monobloc cast iron exhaust manifolds has shell type tubular heat exchangers and coolers for streamlined appearance and long lasting operation. The Lehman Econ-O-Power engine is built using a Ford engine as the "base" unit. Lehman manufactured and provided the "conversion" equipment... those parts that are needed to adapt the Ford engine to marine use. One of Lehmans' most popular diesels, the 380 cubic inch engine is conservatively rated at 120 horsepower at 2500 rpm. The engine has a long history of thoroughbred performance, beginning in 1958 as the Ford Dagenham diesel. Also contributing to the popularity of this engine are the same high performance, high economy features which characterize all Lehman Power diesel marine engines.
The four cycle design, high compression ratio and overhead valves assure clean burning, odor free combustion. The resulting maximization of fuel economy and dependable performance have established this engine as a "pacesetter" among commercial operators, and a favorite of boaters.
Underlying its rugged performance is its rugged construction...a deep, rigid block. The crankshaft is equipped with large diameter crankpins and main bearings. Four hole injectors are fed by an efficient CAV Minimec fuel injection pump which is driven directly by camshaft gearing. This eliminates the exposed auxiliary drive shaft and couplings that were used in earlier models. Lehman diesel marine engines turn counter-clockwise (viewed from the stern of the boat facing forward). Velvet Drive transmission offers positive acting, smooth dependable performance under varied loads.

1984 Lehman introduced the Super Series (SP) variant (135, 160, 225 & 275). Offering numerous improvements and designs to an already proven power plant. The Super Series Lehmans incorporate the following;

  • SP 225 225 horsepower at 2450 rpm
  • 363 cubic inch displacement
  • 6 cylinders
  • Compression ratio 14.7:1
  • Oil Capacity 19.8 quarts
  • One piece manifold
  • The new gas flowed design ensures maximum power minimum noise and minimum fuel consumption
  • New space saving expansion tank down angled design tank with ingenious de-aeration system
  • Fresh water cooled turbo charger (SP 160 & 225). The turbo charger is an integral part of this engine, not merely an "add on" accessory.
  • New slim fit cooling circuit, coolers have stronger internal construction and are positioned along the engine making a slim fit with more reliability
  • Smoother running, high inertia flywheel gives smooth flexible power
  • Quieter, stiffer and stronger block and head to reduce noise
  • Helical flow induction ports and larger inlet valves ensure better breathing
  • New combustion chamber design developed to obtain the best fuel air mixing for a faster smoother more efficient combustion
  • 70 amp Motorola alternator with integral solid state voltage regulator and automatic oil pressure switch (for energizing or disconnecting the system on engine start-up or shut-down).
  • VDO tachometer
  • VDO oil pressure, engine coolant temp, amperage & volt meters
  • CAV Minimec fuel injection pump
  • Painted fire engine red & a chrome plated valve cover.

  • Standard Ford Lehman features are as follows
  • Fresh-water cooled exhaust manifold with patented mono-block design allows lower overall engine height. Heavy, cast-iron construction for long life and dependability
  • 12 volt starting motor
  • Gear driven raw water pump, constructed of bronze with ball bearings for dependability and longer service life. Rubber impeller for maximum water flow.
  • Flexible fuel supply line prevents fuel supply line from breaking
Spin-on, disposable-cartridge oil filter is easily accessible and easy to replace
  • Pressurized cooling system
Efficient fresh-water cooling through shell and tube-type, copper heat exchanger- with pencil zincs for corrosion resistance. Horizontally mounted to eliminate sediment build-up, with access covers for quick cleaning. No aluminum to rot or disintegrate.
  • Efficient oil cooling system
  • Flat-type oil sump
  • Secondary fuel filter
  • Dual Racor water separator

Geoff was so good to work with. He helped me through every aspect of the buying process which I really appreciated. He kept in touch with me through email, phone calls and texts to make sure I understood everything. Very helpful from the minute I landed with directions and support for hotel room and dinner options in the area to the purchasing paperwork, sea trials and finally handing over the money and receiving the keys. He made it very easy for a first time buyer.

I have bought 3 boats from Stan Miller Yachts. 2 were Cabo Yachts that I purchased directly from Stan Miller, and recently I purchased a Viking Yacht where Stan Miller acted as my broker. I am very satisfied with the help and service that I got from Stan Miller and I would happily recommend them! Very professional and very smart.

Stan Miller helped me sell my Grand Banks 36 Classic and purchase a Grand Banks 38 Eastbay. The process was simple and enjoyable thanks to Ian McGhie who went above and beyond to share his vast knowledge and stay engaged with all involved parties until the deals were complete. Thanks Ian and Stan Miller team, I wouldn’t go anywhere else to buy or sell a boat.

Ian was fantastic from start to finish. He was quick to understand my needs and perspective and worked hard on my behalf. He is knowledgeable, has a great working knowledge of boats and the market. I would wholeheartedly recommend him.

It was my first time using Stan Miller Yachts brokerage services. My boat was docked in Mexico. I needed an experienced broker that understood both U.S. Coast Guard and Mexican government procedures. I chose Blake Oversmith. Blake did a great job in working with potential buyers. We had a very rapid closing. Blake stayed in touch to help the transition to the new owner. I highly recommend the Stan Miller team and Blake Oversmith.

Ian, Brad and the Stan Miller Yachts team were wonderful throughout the purchase of my first boat in almost 30 years and first major boat. Ian was patient and happy to answer all my questions and make sure that I understood everything and certainly crossed every “t” and dotted every “i”. I can’t say enough about their integrity, support and expertise. Thanks.
