Custom Pilothouse Cruising Yacht - Perfect for Your Coastal Explorations or Income-Producing Charters

Kiawah, a cruising legend throughout Puget Sound and Southeast Alaska, is offered for sale by her original owner.  She was contracted as a semi-custom build at the Grand Banks Yard in Singapore in 1997 and includes a long list of features that make her ideal for long distance cruising. Every piece of equipment that went into her construction was scrutinized by her owner and superior quality was chosen every time.

Unlike most GB 52 Heritage Europas, Kiawah is a true pilothouse design with a full bulkhead separating her lower helm from the Salon and Galley.  Her spacious pilothouse contains guest seating, a watch berth and comprehensive navigational electronics, making her well-suited for around-the-clock piloting during long coastal passages.

Kiawah was engineered with simple, robust systems designed for long-distance cruising while requiring minimal maintenance.  One example is her 500-gallon water tank, nearly double the capacity of a typical cruising 50-foot motoryacht. Her 1,200 gallon fuel tank and economical CAT 3208NA engines will deliver you to destinations far afield, without worry about refueling.

Since her initial delivery, Kiawah has been professionally maintained and cared for on a rigorous, regular maintenance schedule, under the careful supervision of her owner.

Providing a unique opportunity to experience the vessel prior to purchase, Kiawah is available for pre-purchase charter - please inquire with the listing brokerage for additional information.

Centrally-located in Seattle, the Grand Banks 52EU Kiawah is available for inspection by appointment.

Accommodations and Walkthrough

Welcome aboard KIAWAH! This pilothouse trawler is thoughtfully designed and laid out, to maximize both comfort and cruising. She is well-prepared to take you on voyages both near and far, and has delivered her owners and guests in comfort to the Central B.C. Coast, Southeast Alaska, Prince William Sound, as well as local destinations near her home base of Seattle.

Stepping inside through the custom weather tight salon doors, you enter a large, bright salon, with opening windows and a cheery atmosphere. To starboard is a comfortable couch and to port is a barrel chair and entertainment center. Forward of the salon area and to starboard, is a large, fold-out dining table, with ample room for four adults. Two additional stools at the galley counter provide comfortable dining options for up to six.

The large, U-shaped galley is to port. Any chef would be pleased with the Miele stove, oven and dishwasher, microwave and large Grunert holding plate refrigerators (three total units, one of which is predominately used as a freezer). There is ample counter space for prep work and a deep sink for clean-up.

Moving forward, you pass into the pilothouse, which is able to be completely shut off from the salon if desired - ideal when you are doing long runs in the dark. The generously sized pilothouse is anchored by a large helm console and Stidd helm seat. A chart table is to starboard. You'll also find a raised bench seat, perfect for your navigator or guest to sit and enjoy the view or spot wildlife (or take a nap!). The pilothouse also features a bar with drawer and cubby storage, as well as dedicated glass and bottle storage. Dual pilothouse doors provide an easy manner for captain and crew to access the sidedecks. A stairwell provides internal access to the flybridge.

Access to the accommodations deck is via a stairwell to port in the Pilothouse. Curving down and turning to the right, you reach the full beam master stateroom. The master stateroom features a queen bed, hanging locker, desk, bench and ensuite shower and toilet. There is also a stacked washing machine and dryer in the stateroom, convenient for doing laundry (or warming towels!).

Two guest staterooms are accessed off the main companionway, each featuring a double berth. A shared guest head is also accessed off of the companionway.

Recent Maintenance Highlights

In May 2016, KIAWAH completed a full power sea trial with an authorized Caterpillar dealer, whose technician commented in the report that "the engines ran great." While KIAWAH has more engine hours than one might typically expect on a vessel of this vintage, regular operation and maintenance often leads to a cleaner survey at purchase than a low hour boat that has been sitting at the dock unused.

  • Painted bottom with Interlux Ultra-Kote [2016]
  • Tender & outboard service [2016]
  • New zincs [2016]
  • Hull polished  [2016]
  • Bright work refinished  [2016]
  • Major soft goods professionally cleaned  [April 2017]
  • CAT engines inspection and Onan generator inspection [2016]
  • Refrigeration/freezer reconditioning by Sea Freeze [2016]
  • Diesel furnace rebuild [April 2017]
  • Transom varnish [August 2017]
